Dachshund Spring Social!

On Sunday, May 15th, the 8th Annual Spring Dachshund Social will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Thomas Griswold House, 171 Boston Street, in Guilford, Connecticut. The Dachshund Rescue and Pet Services is expecting about 200 dachshunds, representing New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  There will be vendors, great raffles, dachshund races, and Best Buddy Biscuits will be there with a large variety of pet treats! And don’t forget the most important things: dogs will be available for adoption.

If you are in the area, we’d love to see you (and feel free to bring your dog!).  Contact us or the Dachshund Rescue & Pet Services Organization with any questions!

Follow that truck!

Dogs in the Los Angeles area have a real treat coming their way! There’s a new truck call the Phydough Truck that hit the road this past weekend, selling gourmet dog cookies, bake-at-home dough and ice cream for dogs.  With over a dozen cookie flavors (ranging from red velvet to duck fat to sesame agave), the Phydough Truck is really providing an eclectic variety for their customers.  Check out their Facebook page for more details.  We’ll definitely be keeping tabs on this innovative food truck!

New York Stock Exchange Welcomes Pets to Raise Awareness

On Christmas Eve, the New York Stock Exchange invited Iams, the pet food company, and several animal shelters to ring the closing bell in order to raise awareness for the many cats and dogs who are still in need of adoptive families.  Iams’ Home 4 the Holidays program hopes to place 1.5 million pets in new homes this holiday season and will provide over 5 million meals to homeless pets.  Since the program began in 1999, Iams has found loving families for over 5.5 million pets.

It’s important to remember the millions of animals in shelters all over the country. this holiday season. To learn more about Iams’ Home 4 the Holidays program, visit their website here.  In the meantime, check out some pictures from these pets’ big day at the New York Stock Exchange!

What We’ve Been Up To: Dachshund Halloweiner Celebration

This was the second year that Best Buddy Biscuits participated in the Dachshund Halloweiner event in Guilford, Connecticut, and we had so much fun!  Ann Jordan is the coordinator of this day, and at any given point, she is the foster mom to no less than 20 of these beautiful dogs.  This event draws nearly 100 dachshunds, all dressed in costumes which range from beautiful to absolutely outrageous.  The dogs were quite comical–they didn’t fuss one bit about wearing these get-ups.  It’s a great day overall for dachshund owners to gather and celebrate their pets, and we are already looking forward to participating in next year’s festivities!

What We’ve Been Up To: Dog Days in Guilford, CT

On October 30th and 31st, Best Buddy Biscuits took part in the Dog Days event at the Bishop’s Field in Guilford, Connecticut.  Together with the ASPCA, the Dog Days organization held a phenomenal dog adoption–in only two days, 168 dogs were placed in new homes!  The event was extremely organized and staffed by over 50 volunteers.  There was an unbelievable variety of dogs up for adoption, from puppies to young adult dogs, and so many breeds were represented.  All of the dogs had been fixed, they all had their shots and since most had been in foster care, a large percentage were domesticated and house-trained.  They were all in remarkable condition considering the horrible environment that they had been born into.

Once a person or family chose a dog, a volunteer would escort the animal to the vet (who graciously volunteered his time) for a quick check-up, then over for adoption approval and if everything checked out, for the small price of about $300.00, they left with a beautiful pet.  The dogs knew that these families were there to take them home and in a matter of minutes, the bonding process began and real relationships developed almost immediately between dog and man.

In three months from now, Dogs Days plans to hold another adoption event.  As summer approaches, the organization hopes to hold an adoption event on the last Sunday of each month.  You can be sure that Best Buddy Biscuits will be there to participate as a vendor and donating in any way that we can.

Thanks to the generosity of our customers, we were able to donate a check to Dogs Days that will be put towards the purchase of new collars and leads.  We were told that that gift basket that we donated to the Silent Auction pulled in $40.00.

This is an incredible organization and it was an honor to participate and meet the faces that make it all possible.  We will post information about their next event soon for those who may want to come and check it out!
