Help Willy’s Friends: Sunday, May 20th

Come visit Best Buddy Biscuits at the Help Willy’s Friends Pet fair on Sunday, May 20th from 11:00am to 4:00pm! Held at Coginchaug Regional High School at 135 Pickett Lane, Durham, Connecticut, Help Willy’s Friends is a gigantic pet fair with hundreds of dogs from over 40 shelters and agencies ready to be adopted! In addition to a huge dog parade, there will be face painting (for humans), pet photos, nail clippings, food stands and almost 100 other vendors. Admission is FREE! The weather is supposed to be gorgeous so spend some time outside and visit the Help Willy’s Friends Pet Fair! Pets Making a Difference: Izzy the Beagle

At John F. Kennedy Airport, the busiest airport in America for international flights, Izzy the beagle spends her days in Terminal 4 sniffing out illegal edibles coming through customs. As people enter the United States, many try to smuggle in some of their favorite delicacies whether they be mangoes or goat heads. Izzy is trained to alert personnel of any food, including herbs and liquids, so that the items can be inspected by human customs employees. An apple may seem harmless, but even this benign fruit can spread dangerous agricultural disease, according to the New York Times.

As a reward, Izzy is given pepperoni pieces. For checking over 2,000 bags per hour and keeping out countless viruses, these are much deserved treats.

Beagles Rescued, Mission Accomplished!

If you are looking for a heartwarming story, watch this video below which is from the Animal Rescue Media Education (ARME), who rescued 40 beagles who were raised in an animal-testing lab in Europe. These poor pups were kept in isolation from birth and have never even been outside. The footage below shows the dogs learning to trust their rescuers and walking on grass for the first time. Thank you to all of the wonderful organizations out there who work so hard to protect our animals!

Holiday Fair at Cook Hill School, Wallingford: Sunday, November 20th

On Sunday, November 20th, Best Buddy Biscuits will take part in the 2nd Annual Cook Hill School Holiday Marketplace at 44 Schoolhouse Road in Wallingford, Connecticut. The fair will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm and there will be over 30 vendors selling crafts, holiday goods and food. Last year’s event was an amazing success and this year promises to be a terific event as well. If you are in the area, drop by the Cook Hill School for some pre-Thanksgiving holiday cheer!!

Holy Cross Mother’s Club Christmas Bazaar: Saturday, November 13th

This Saturday, November 13th, we’ll be at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, Connecticut, from 9:00am to 3:00pm for the Annual Mother’s Club Christmas Bazaar. Best Buddy Biscuits did this fair two years ago and we had a great time. If you’re in the area, stop by and check out the 50+ craft vendors, as well as raffles, gift baskets, food stands and pictures with Santa. 6th Annual STARS Festival: Saturday, October 8th

Come join Best BuddyBiscuits this Saturday, October 8th, 2011 at the 6^th Annual STARS Festival to benefit the Stratford Animal Rescue Society. From 10:00am to 5:00pm at Paradise Green (Huntington Road and Main Street, Stratford), there will be over 80 vendors selling a wide variety of products, ranging from pet accessories to holiday crafts. There are tons of activities including an early-morning dog walk, a silent auction, raffles and many competitions for your pets (maybe your pup will win ‘Best Kisser’ of the festival!).

This is an incredible organization that Best Buddy Biscuits has been proud to support for three years. STARS in a non-profit volunteer organization that promotes the cause of animal welfare for animals housed at Stratford Animal Control. Their primary purpose is to facilitate and expedite adoptions of homeless animals into homes. They also raise funds through private donations and fundraisers to provide food and medical care for animals impounded in the Stratford Animal Control Facility.

New in the Guinness World Records Book

Meet Harbor, an 8-year old black and tan Coonhound from Boulder, Colorado, who is now in the Guinness World Records Book 2012 for having the Longest Ears on a Living Dog. His left and right ears measure 12.25 inches and 13.5 inches respectively! What an unbelievable feat!

One fun fact about Harbor: his ear-span is greater than the height of the world’s shortest man, who is Junrey Balawing measuring in at 23.5 inches.
