Just in Time for Summer Vacation

Have you heard about Dog Vacay? Instead of leaving your pup at a kennel the next time you go on vacation, try finding a temporary caregiver on this new site.  Dog Vacay features dog owners and animal lovers from your community who offer to take care of your pet for a daily rate.  There are so many advantages to a service like this: it’s an affordable place for your dog to stay while you are out of town, but most importantly, you can ensure that your pet is being cared for and comfortable in an actual home.

If you are worried about trusting a stranger, you can always read the reviews from users on the site (most of the caregivers are approved by Dog Vacay) or you can propose a ‘meet and greet’ to become acquainted with the sitter before you leave your pup with him or her.  And here’s the cool part: while you are away, you can arrange for photo updates with your chosen caregiver so that you can check in every day.  Those check-ins are reassuring no matter how far away you are.

What do you think about this new website? Would you feel better leaving your pet at a fellow dog lover’s home rather than a kennel? And who normally takes care of your pets while you are out of town?

Helping US Military Pups Overseas

U.S. Navy MASN Duane Jones and his MWD Barry

Best Buddy Biscuits is so excited to announce that we were recently contacted by the United States War Dog Association, which supports military and police canines unit, to donate our biscuits for distribution to these hard-working dogs.  Our healthy, delicious treats will be sent overseas and will hopefully bring a taste of home to our military canines.   We are extremely honored to work with this great organization and donate to this extremely worthy cause.  It is such a wonderful opportunity to be able to help US soldiers and military dogs who all give so much for our country every day.

If you have a moment, please visit their site at, where you can find more information about these brave dogs, their amazing handlers and even information on how to adopted a Retired Military Working Dog after he/she has put in years of service.  Thanks so much to the United States War Dog Association for contacting us.  We look forward to working with the Association and to sending treats to our hard-working canines in the Armed Forces for a long time to come.

Pets Making a Difference: Izzy the Beagle

At John F. Kennedy Airport, the busiest airport in America for international flights, Izzy the beagle spends her days in Terminal 4 sniffing out illegal edibles coming through customs.  As people enter the United States, many try to smuggle in some of their favorite delicacies whether they be mangoes or goat heads.  Izzy is trained to alert personnel of any food, including herbs and liquids, so that the items can be inspected by human customs employees.  An apple may seem harmless, but even this benign fruit can spread dangerous agricultural disease, according to the New York Times.

As a reward, Izzy is given pepperoni pieces.  For checking over 2,000 bags per hour and keeping out countless viruses, these are much deserved treats.

Beagles Rescued, Mission Accomplished!

If you are looking for a heartwarming story, watch this video below which is from the Animal Rescue Media Education (ARME), who rescued 40 beagles who were raised in an animal-testing lab in Europe. These poor pups were kept in isolation from birth and have never even been outside.  The footage below shows the dogs learning to trust their rescuers and walking on grass for the first time.  Thank you to all of the wonderful organizations out there who work so hard to protect our animals!

Last week in New York City, dolled-up pups came out in droves to walk in the 21st Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade.  Best Week Ever was there to cover the event and features  dozens of pictures as well as great commentary on their site.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Feeling sheepy…

Something’s keeping him down.
