We Were at the Big E, Part I!

Whew! We’re back in town after a crazy, whirlwind weekend at the Big E! Best Buddy Biscuits was so happy to be a vendor in the Connecticut Building last weekend–we made lots of connections, met wonderful people, ate some awesome food and sold a ton of biscuits and jerky!  We cannot wait until the beginning of October to do it all again–we’re headed back to be vendors in the Connecticut Building for the last weekend of the Big E from October 2nd through October 4th.

In the meantime, here are a few photos of some of our favorite things from our weekend.  Check out our Facebook page here for more photos and news from BBB. Hope to see you in a few weeks on the fairgrounds!

Furry Fashion Trends

Fur buns are the new fashion trend for pups. These dogs couldn’t be more hip if they tried. Have you ever styled your dog other than the basic grooming session? (via Buzzfeed)

Note: if you try this, take care with your dog’s ears and fur. If they seem to be uncomfortable or in pain, abort your fashion mission!

How Does Your Dog Spend the Summer?

Dog Camp

Now that it’s summer, everyone is thinking about vacations and daytrips and visits to the beach. What about your dog? Do you take your pet with you on vacation? Does someone watch him or her when you are away? Or maybe your pup deserves a vacation too.

Dog camps have been popping up all over and are a great alternative to boarding your dog in a traditional way.  These programs are usually on large pieces of land so the ‘campers’ are able to get lots of time outside and many offer training courses, special exercise classes and great canine games, not to mention attentive, fun-loving staff.

Check out this article from PureWow to get specifics on five dog camps in the Northeast.

Preparing for the Annual Fireworks Scare

It’s almost Independence Day, which means it’s officially Fireworks Season!  This is a really scary times for dogs though so read up on how to manage their anxieties and keep them calm while the celebrations are happening outside.

A few important things to keep in mind:

  • When dogs are scared, they are more likely to run away. Make sure your pet has proper and up-to-date identification or tracking information just in case he or she panics and runs from home.
  • Keep windows or curtains closed to minimize noise and loud flashes.
  • Create a comfortable and soothing spot for your dog, whether that be a warm blanket on the floor, his or her regular pen or right by your side!

More information available here and here.

Dogs Can Sunburn, Too.

Don’t forget that under all of that fur, dogs have sensitive skin that can burn when in direct sunlight, especially in the warm summer months. Dog noses, ears and mouths are especially vulnerable.  To keep your dog safe while spending time outside, check out this article from Dogster for sun safety tips.  This piece from Best Bully Sticks also has great suggestions for treating pups with sunburn including using aloe and vitamin E.  Stay safe, furry friends!

Summer Food Don’ts for Dogs

Summer started this past weekend and that means lots of barbecues, s’mores, corn-on-the-cob and cold beers, right? Check out this chart to see what you should keep away from your dog. Who knew that grapes and apples under certain conditions could be so harmful?

Now That’s Doggy Dedication

Kennels can be cold and scary for dogs so when Igor’s family booked a vacation, they wanted to make sure he felt safe and comfortable while they were away.  Check out the living room replica that Igor’s dad created at the kennel. How amazing is this set-up? This is one lucky English Bulldog for sure!
